That is such a beautiful bird and so unusual, at least it is to me. I thought the only blue birds were the ones in Vera Lynn’s song. Shows what I know 😊

A portrait oriented image of a rocky beach on the island of Fuerteventura. A rocky pavement stretches out in front of me, it’s part of the island’s volcanic coastline. Dramatic and beautiful. The rocks rise on the left creating a low cliff that shelters the bay. On the right of all the rock, with the tide low, a sand bank can be seen, beyond it a sliver of sea and then the sky.

A large number of black-headed gull are right in front of the camera, six or more in flight and more on the ground. The late evening sun behind them, glowing through the wings of those in flight. The backdrop is Windermere and mountains beyond it.

The branches of an ornamental cherry are adorned with blossoms. The tree is on the left of the image branches coming in at the bottom and exiting at the top except for one that is reaching over to the right. A blue tit is perched on this branch in a clump of blossom.

I’ve opted for this #BlueTit sitting amidst the #CherryBlossom

A portrait oriented image. A single track lane leads us into the image. It’s very much a track as opposed to a lane with a grass rut up the middle. On the left is a stone wall with a deep proof fence and on the right is a bracken covered bank (autumn bracken, orange not green). Ahead are mountains and above them a blue sky with fluffy clouds.

A 50/50 split image. A foggy morning in Chatsworth Park standing by the river Derwent. On the left across the river are a group of trees standing by the water and reflecting in it, the river sweeps on and curves just before it get to the right hand side. Over on the right on my side of the river is another group of trees. It’s a very minimal image because of all the fog, trees, a sliver of riverbank and trees, that’s it. Oh and a faint orange glow in the sky from a sun we can’t see.

Poem
Struggling to stand on wet green land,
Mother nervously at hand
New born foalon spindly legs
Welcomed to the world by chilly winds.

First steps taken tentatively,
Gives his first joyous whinney,
Strengthening legs....he stretches out
Soon...proudly , he struts about.
Galloping now with great speed
Of his mother....he takes no heed
Owner looks in oer the gate
Says 'Someday Shergar you will be great'

By
Joseph Enright

A mare and her foal being lead along a track between old stone buildings. The foal, only a few weeks old, is confidently stepping out in front. The mars is chestnut with black main and tail, the foal is a wonderful shade of orange.

A grey squirrel visiting my garden. I don’t encourage them, using mainly squirrel proof feeders for the birds, but they come anyway always hopeful of a free meal.

This one is sitting on a branch above me looking out into the space beyond me with its tail hanging down over the branch.

I wish we had reds 🐿️

Whenever we go anywhere that is fortunate enough to have them I silently curse whoever it was that introduced the greys

A landscape oriented image with a stone wall coming in on the left under the canopy of a large oak tree that arches out and fills the top of the frame. To the right of the wall is a grass verge and then a narrow country lane with a hedge on its right which edges the photo. The lane takes us into the image and beyond the it we see more trees and some fields. Through a small gap in the oaks canopy we can just make out a row of cottages in the distance, one of these was our holiday home during our time here.

The last moments of daylight at Curbar Edge. A place of amazing views in and striking rock formations in the Peak District national park. This is a portrait image looking out at the view between some of the rocky outcrops. Gritstone boulders are on either side in the distance are autumnal silver birch, beyond them there are rolling hills of the park and above them the darkening sky.

One of the many sites full of archaeological treasures on the island of Kos. Across the bottom of the frame is an ancient stone wall and standing on it are the remains of two Roman columns. Decorated ind vine leaves. On the left is a shrubby tree, behind it a building can be seen, this is part of the old town not the ancient site. Above is a Mediterranean blue sky.

Looking across a valley and focusing in on the roofs of three houses just visible amongst trees in dense woodland. Spring is moving on and leaves are fast appearing on their branches. Sunlight is making them gently glow. The house are along the bottom third, trees fill the entire frame, deciduous in the bottom two thirds and fits in the top.

A mealworm feeder hanging in a tree in the garden. Is a clear bowl with a clear lid over it, one to keep the food dry and two to keep off the big birds and squirrels. In it, appearing to look out at me, is a tiny blue tit. The out of focus backdrop is a beech hedge yet to get its spring leaves.

We have a small, twiglet branch crossing the frame from right to left, coming in hallway down and exiting at the top. A siskin that had been perched midway along from the right has just taken flight. It’s angled downwards and its wings are just opening. It’s taken with a narrow depth of field throwing the beech hedge backdrop out of focus.

A head and shoulders portrait of a wood pigeon. The bird is in the bottom right of the image filling just over a quarter of the frame. Close up you can see a slight iridescent sheen to its feathers. It mostly shades of gray with a white collar (only to the back of its neck) a yellow beak and bright black eyes. Its chest has a purple red hue. The backdrop is a beach hedge that is just coming in to leaf. I’ve used a shallow depth of field so it’s not in focus to separate it from the subject.

This is what the RSPB has to say about it: The UK's largest and most common pigeon, the Woodpigeon is largely grey with a white neck patch and white wing patches, clearly visible in flight. Although shy in the countryside it can be tame and approachable in towns and cities. Its cooing call is a familiar sound in woodland as is the loud clatter of its wings when it flies away.

A line of marble busts standing on plinths in the Correr Museum, Venice. The closest Is a 3rd-century AD Roman funerary bust that is said to display a remarkable degree of realism and is noted for its detailed, expressive, and lifelike quality that predates the Renaissance by over a millennium.

There are four more beyond him these have curly hair and have on togas or something similar.
