RIP Desmond Morris. His memoir Animal Days captivated me in my late teens with its often humorous stories of animals, ethology, art, artists and more besides.

Peak bluebell bloom in the Chiltern Hills - amongst beautiful beech trees. Sunrise casts wonderful light into the woodland, creating a beautiful scene.
Peak bloom. The bluebell carpets are truly vast in our British woodlands, stretching out in all directions as far as the eye can see. The sights, sounds and smells of the forest are incredibly good for the soul.

A fantastic volunteer warden at our Big Waters Nature Reserve snapped this gorgeous picture of a little egret there last week, feeding on the west scrape and enjoying the mud now that the water level in the lake has lowered. 💚

Two Emperor Moths on a bramble with wings open: one larger and grey (female) and the other smaller and orange (male)
Did you know that a male Emperor Moth (Saturnia pavonia) can smell a female more than 7 miles away? 👃
These winged wonders can be seen across the UK in open countryside such as heathland and moorland between April and May.

Bluebells at Worfield.
A carpet of bluebells in Chempshill Coppice, Worfield. The fragrance was almost overpowering as I followed a footpath through this woodland near Bridgnorth, which I make a point of visiting every spring. Half the world’s bluebells are to be found in the UK, with... #Shropshire

Bursting into the rome, he found her cavorting with an awick from Hawick (via Worcester), whose close attentions had left her all of a florcester. His fiancé, who hailed from Beaulieu, begged him not to get upset undeaulieu, as Ralph stared at them, boggle-eyed. Things aren’t how they look, she cried. Brian Bilston

A map showing the migration of Cuckoo Jim from the UK to Africa and back again, with his current location in the UK. A headshot of Cuckoo Jim features, alongside the wording: After making his way steadily north through France, Jim launched across The Channel from Bayeux and arrived on the coast near Worthing on 16 April! From here, he headed to West Sussex, and is just 7 miles from where he was tagged last May.
Another BTO Cuckoo has touched down in the UK! 🙌

🦇 Happy #BatAppreciationDay! Bats matter across the UK and around the world. Bat species play a vital role in ecosystems, from agricultural land to tropical forests. They pollinate plants, disperse seeds and eat insects which damage crops.

Hares galore on today's walk! Some were very obliging for photos, unusually. Normally as I stomp across the fields they spot me before I spot them!

Thanks Caroline. I haven't had one hit me this hard in quite some time, so this has been an unpleasant reminder of how horrible they can be!
Day 7, and this cold—including the bloody awful cough that developed after Day 3—might finally be subsiding. Watched Life Of Chuck today and wow, what a story and what a film. Dazzling dancing, Carl Sagan, a mysterious room, and a third act (at the beginning, of course!) that eventually makes sense.
