So, About the Safety Nets Thresholds A (hopefully) easy to understand summary of Australian MBS and PBS Safety Nets!

Talking to a friend today, discovered she had no knowledge of REGISTER AS A FAMILY for the Australian Medicare threshold to INCREASE THE REBATES. Sure, for a 100% healthy family, it may not make a huge difference, but if any family member has health challenges, it will.

I wrote this in 2022.

Older Australians are healthier than ever, but this hasn’t changed the way we talk or think about over-70s | John Quiggin People are still classified as ‘older’ or even ‘elderly’ as early as 65, even though they are now expected to keep working until they are 67

“How Can I Afford to Exercise?” This question has been passed to me from a health care worker and is a very valid question. Many people with chronic conditions are on a limited budget. How can we afford the costs of exercise?

(2/2) I was trying to keep this short, not a strength of mine.

Anyway, I am a living example that #MovementAsMedicine does work (not for every disease, of course).

There needs to be more financial support though, as it is not cheap.

@johnquiggin.bsky.social to avoid any confusion, this is also me, i.e. KoparaFallsKid, with my chronic illness 🧢 on. FIRM advocate of #MovementAsMedicine. Given your background & working role, I'm sure you can see links: economics of better care for those of our era where movement works. (1/2)

The Horrors That Could Lie Ahead if Vaccines Vanish Researchers at Stanford University modeled how many people could die or be disabled in 25 years if vaccines for polio, measles, rubella or diphtheria were no longer available.

“When immunization rates drop, however, plagues from the past can come roaring back, as measles has in American communities where parents decided not to vaccinate their children.

Imagine what would happen if even the people who wanted shots couldn’t get them.”

Pretending COVID isn't a thing—my #LongCOVID would like a word—is like pretending the climate crisis isn't spiraling out of control is like diving into an empty pool.

I've gone from "What are they thinking?"
To "What?! ARE they thinking?"

In every case, the answer is no. They aren't. By choice.

Oh, agree, but that was not the issue here, Sandra. There were restrictions I could not circumvent.

This is about not being able to do your normal stuff.

My lateral curved incision for total knee replacements - Dr. Chien-Wen Liew

Apparently, yes, from what I read. It means the nerves on the front of the knee are not impacted, so you can kneel.

Ben, I should add, I generally write in the context of pain management given my usual audience, but from my own experience, yes, pacing applies to the lethargy/fatigue as well (also a symptom of my disease collection).

Ben, you are the first person I have seen/heard mention #pacing with #PEM! It has been a puzzle to me, as I learnt about pacing in 2017.

So glad to see you put them together!

I looked at the possibility of doing a PhD on the day-to-day patient experience. Most (all I could find) patient experience research is about the patient interaction with the health system/medical profession, rather that how we get through project managing our situation.

Tip from someone who learned the hard way: bring data to your doctor appointments. Even rough notes about when symptoms happen and what makes them better or worse can change the conversation completely.
