ACE-2 receptor cleavage for SARS-CoV S-protein activation (relevance not been determined). C. Plasmin breaks down excess fibrin and elevates D-dimer levels thus decreasing platelet count resulting in hemorrhage. D. Plasmin cleaves subunits of the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) increasing the entry of Nations into epithelial cells, contributing to hypertension and dehydration of the fluid lining the lung airways and alveolar cells, further exacerbating the effects of COVID-19.
