A unique one of a kind pair of vintage 1960s 70s handmade sterling silver and enamel geometric design modernist cufflinks from Israel. Never seen anything like this before! Such a unique design of bands of greens and gray enamel across a concave surface that reflects differently depending on the angle of the light source. Each cufflink measures just under 3/4" across by 1/2" wide, and the pair weigh 11.2 grams total. Marked, "925" for sterling silver, and the Israeli "Mem" export mark with "C2" inside. This is the same export mark as the other pair of Israeli cufflinks that I'm listing today, but this pair doesn't have the other maker mark for some reason. Perhaps the retailer requested that they not mark them. I can't be sure, but the quality is superb, the craftsmanship is of the highest, and they have survived well with no damage to the enamel. Excellent vintage condition.

A big pair of vintage 1950s 60s signed handmade sterling silver and black enamel modernist fish design cufflinks by Meka of Denmark. Meka Reklamegaver was a Danish silversmith company that operated from 1951 to 1989 in Holte, north of Copenhagen. They were known for their jewelry and enamelware items, such as spoons, bowls, and salt and pepper shakers, that incorporated sterling components and colorful enamel. Ib Bluitgen worked in Georg Jensen's design department before starting his own studio and designs for Meka. A beautiful modernist 'fish' design pair of cufflinks in solid sterling silver with black enamel sections at front as shown. Each measures 1" across by 5/8" tall, and the pair weigh just over 12 grams total. Marked on the swivelbacks as shown, "Meka Sterling Denmark". Excellent vintage condition.

A superb one of a kind pair of vintage 1960s 70s signed handmade sterling silver brutalist abstract modernist cufflinks from Israel. Entirely hand fabricated, not cast, from solid sterling silver in an intricate abstract design that resembles machinery or the old computer circuit boards of that time. At least, that's what I see, you may see something entirely different. In any case, a great pair, signed by the artist as shown, and in such great shape after all these years! Each measures 7/8" across by nearly 3/4" tall at fronts, and the pair weigh 14.5 grams total. Marked at back as shown in my closeup photos, "925" for sterling silver, and an unknown (to me) circular maker mark that looks like a little man with a dot for a head. Also, marked on the swivelbacks as shown in my closeup photo with the Israeli 'Mem' export mark with "C2" inside. Excellent vintage condition.

A classic pair of vintage 1950s 60s handmade sterling silver and 8K rose gold Greek Male in profile Adonis figure design cufflinks by Swank and from their Arts of the World line, this entry being from Greece (and marked so), and in the original box. Really beautiful classical male in profile design, each cufflink is different though similar (and this is of course part of the design), in such great condition with just a bit of tarnish to the silver, and in the original Swank box! So rare to find all of this together, a real collector dream! Each cufflink measures 1-1/8" diameter, and the set weighs 23.4 grams total. The 8K rose gold figures at center are no doubt what is called gold-overlay which is a thin layer (thicker than plating, closer to a thin foil) that is laid over the underlying solid sterling base. Marked inside the box as shown, "Swank Arts of the World". The cufflinks are marked "Hand Made in Greece" and "Sterling 8K Gold". The box is in great shape with just faint signs of wear as shown, the cufflinks look nearly like new from the fronts, but the backs shown some wear to the oxidation given to the silver at back. This of course can be easily re-added to the backs if you care to with a simple 'liver of sulphur' solution applied with a small paint brush. I've left them exactly as found. The gold-plated solid sterling silver swivelbacks are also marked "Sterling" as well. Excellent vintage condition.

An exceptional one of a kind set of vintage 1950s 60s signed handmade sterling silver geometric modernist cufflinks with matching tie bar by renowned studio metalsmith Wesley Emmons of Philadelphia, PA. Entirely handmade in heavy gauge sterling silver with a drilled arrangement of dots in a grid, and one raised gold dot slightly off to the side. A metaphor? Pure geometry? No idea, but it's thought-provoking, a great design, and even better craftsmanship! Here’s a short biography of the artist: Born in 1928 in Pennsylvania, he served in the military just after WWII in Japan, then returned to the US to attend the Philadelphia Museum School of Art from 1950-1954. He graduated with a BFA in Jewelry and Silversmithing (the Museum School became the Philadelphia College of Art, PCA, and is now known as the University of the Arts). He opened his own gallery in 1954 and remained active in jewelry design and creation until just before his death in 2011. He also served as a crafts and jewelry instructor for the Philadelphia College of Art from 1954 to 1966. His art was shown at the Hickok Jewelry Exhibition, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the Philadelphia Museum of Art (1974 Touch of Gold), the Woodmere Gallery, the Museum of the Philadelphia Civic Center (Craftsman 67). He was also commissioned by leading museums and galleries to restore priceless treasures. A "Wesley Emmons: Retrospective" was exhibited in The University of the Arts in 2003. (See my last three photos of the artist early on, later in life, and the exhibition card for the retrospective in 2003.) The cufflinks measure 11/16" square at fronts, and the tie bar measures 1-3/8" long by 11/16" wide. The set weighs 22.6 grams total. Marked at backs as shown, "925" for sterling silver, and the distinctive maker mark for Emmons. Excellent vintage condition.

An eye-catching pair of vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver abstract modernist cufflinks by American metalsmith Paul Miller of NYC. Paul Miller worked with sterling silver and natural stones like black spinel, carnelian, agate, moonstone, malachite, etc. His designs are most often abstract, entirely handmade, and likely one of a kind! Each cufflinks is a square shape with rounded corners with applied sterling wire in an abstract organic biomorphic design, and with one applied half-sphere in one corner. The cufflinks measure 7/8" by 7/8" at fronts and the pair weigh 15.8 grams total for the pair. One cufflinks is unmarked, the other is marked "Paul Miller Sterling". Unfortunately, little is known of the life or career of Paul Miller, but his designs speak for themselves! These likely one of a kind wearable art cufflinks are obviously the work of a gifted designer and talented metalsmith! Excellent vintage condition.

A sculptural pair of vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver geometric modernist cufflinks by California artist/silversmith Harold Fithian. Superb design of five raised bars of polished silver above oxidized (black) recesses. The silver bars taper wider from side to side, and then become a curve at the wider end which is also open at the back at that side! Deceptively simple design is actually quite complex when examined closely! Harold Fithian (1905-1972) was an all-American romantic figure - he was born and raised in Southern California - he studied acting with Edna Ames and worked on the back lot of Universal Studios in Hollywood in the 1920s - was a labor organizer and friend of Woody Guthrie in the 1930s and 40s - a well-known designer and metalsmith in the 1950s and 60s - and he is probably best known for his modernist style cufflinks and other mens jewelry. His work is quite rare in comparison with most other studio metalsmiths of the period, and it's getting harder and harder to find pieces by him! Each cufflink measures 7/8" across by 1/2" tall at fronts, and the pair weigh 13.4 grams total. Marked with Fithian maker mark "fi" also "Sterling" on swivelbacks. Excellent vintage condition.

an INTRICATE pair of vintage 1960s 70s handmade 800 silver geometric modernist design cufflinks from Orno of Warsaw, Poland, and with an original Orno paper label with information about the pair in Polish. Orno (meaning "I adorn" in Latin) was an artist cooperative in Warsaw composed of many artists and craftspeople. The jewelry was primarily made in silver and the items were produced in small series, never exceeding 100 of any item made by the cooperative. This pair of dimensional geometric design cufflinks were most likely made in the 1960s to 1970s, but there are no date letters on Orno jewelry, so hard to say exactly. The cufflinks measure 7/8" by a hair over 1/2" at fronts by just over 1/8" thick, and the pair weigh 10.6 grams total. Marked "Orno" on both cufflinks as shown, also the Polish silver hallmark for Warsaw and 800 silver used after 1963. As noted above, this pair come with an original Orno paper label with information about this pair of cufflinks written in Polish including the designer/maker name which I am unable to read. Excellent vintage condition

Castillo worked for Spratling in the 1930s, then Aguilar at Taller Borda around 1939, and opened his own shop in Taxco in the 1940s. He also designed jewelry for Rafael Melendez around the same time, as well as providing one of a kind creations to the Tane Gallery in Mexico City. This pair of cufflinks is from early in his career, and shows the vigor and ingenuity of an original creative artist! Entirely handmade deeply incised design that has been oxidized black to contrast with the polished silver surface surrounding it. No doubt a one of a kind pair as it's the only example that I have seen by them in my 45+ year career! The Burkee brand was born in Colorado, but they moved to Arizona in the 1970s where they remained for the rest of their lives.
