Dead, hollow stems sitting in a sawed-off aluminum can that is fastened to the corner of a compost bin.
I made carbonnade flamande yesterday so had a few tall cans of Belgian beer sitting around. Loved the label so am using them to hold stems for tunnel-nesting bees and wasps. Can't wait to spam everyone with photographs of the visitors. #bees #wasps #beer

The spider lying paralysed. It has a large abdomen with a pattern of dots. Its body is white, while the legs have black and white bands.
A large Spider Wasp (family Pompilidae) spotted at Coney Island on 30 March 2025. It has paralysed this Dome Web Spider (Cyrtophora moluccensis) and is preparing a nesting hole.

British Ichneumonoidea - Malcolm Storey "Lennart Bendixen and I have just submitted the manuscript to our forthcoming WILDGuide to Britain's Darwin Wasps. There's still quite lot to be sorted out before it gets printed but most of the outstanding work is now somebody else's responsibility!
