The Cromarty Firth serves as a major hub for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of oil and gas platforms. In addition to oil and gas, the port is increasingly involved in servicing the offshore renewable energy sector.

A large crowd in #Cromarty on this day in 1914 to watch the beginning of construction of the Dingwall & Cromarty Light Railway. The line was intended to be 18 miles long and connect with the Highland Railway at Conon. Building was halted at the outbreak of WWI and never resumed
