An intelligent, alert and largely self-sufficient light-coloured street dog stands with sacred Mount Arunachala in the background at Post Office Road. Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India. Millions of stray dogs live on the streets of India, often struggling with extreme heat and limited resources. When encountering them, it is generally advised to remain calm, avoid direct eye contact and not run away.
Mount Arunachala and Ramana Maharshi are considered inseparable, representing the unity of the Guru and the Self. Sri Ramana described his connection to Arunachala as one of total surrender, often signifying that the sage and the mountain are not two, but one entity, embodying absolute silence and knowledge. Indeed, in The Marital Garland Of Letters he wrote, "Let us enjoy one another in the house of open space, where there is neither night nor day, Oh Arunachala!"
Hi Ren (2022) is a conversation between Ren Gill and his 'inner demons', illustrating that his darkness and light are inseparable parts of one unbroken whole and emphasising a need to accept both rather than battle them. The lyrics argue against fighting the "negative voice" within and instead promotes the acceptance of duality to overcome internal and external battles.
I am you, you are me
you are I, I am we
We are one, split in two
that makes one, so you see
You got to kill you
if you wanna kill me
Ren Gill, 21st century
