These drinkwater bottles with the bottom taken out, are partially perforated. These perforarions are covered with a 50 Micron mesh fabric to avoid anoxic conditions as much as possible and keep algae out.
They will be held in place by a pvc tube on the lake bed. Every two weeks the collection jars must be replaced by new ones. We expect to see buoyant Microcystis or Dolichospermum colonies in the collection jars in due time....or not.

This is the ditch #scum I'm talking about. 2nd photo is made 8 hours later. The differences are minute. Some patches have connected. These #Oscillatoria glide around forming mats on the bottom of ditches and start to float when they produce oxygen bubbles trapped within the patch.
