No.2 of the #12bottlesofChristmas is an SGN #pinotgris from Ernest Burn in #Alsace. No room to explain, but it’s a top-notch botrytis-affected wine. It’s honeyed yet acid and utterly wonderful. Francis Burn is one of the best winemakers on the planet in my eyes. I implore you to seek his wines out.
Light golden in color. Strong nose of citrus, apples, honeysuckle, spices and white pepper. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with pears, yellow apples, spices, earth, light vegetables and herbs. Nice length on the finish with light marzipan notes. This is a very tasty white blend from Alsace. Buttery and creamy. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. This 5 year old is drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. Spicy and complex. Good by itself or with food. A blend of 40% Riesling, 30% Auxerrois, 20% Pinot Gris, 5% Muscat and 5% Sylvaner. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $28.
