Force Majeure Red Mountain Syrah 2018, Washington State Inky in color with a short reddish rim. Strong nose of black fruits with cedar, licorice, chocolates, earth, herbs, mediterranean spices and black pepper. Full-bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and very fruity on the palate with black currants, black plums, dried fruits, cedar, figs, light alcohol, black licorice, dark chocolates, light earth, tobacco, herbs and peppercorn. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 8 year old Syrah from Red Mountain is drinking beautifully now. Rich and fruit forward. Nicely balanced and elegant. Complex and entertaining. Delicious now, and drinking close to its peak. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours of airtime. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. A blend of 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier. Aged for 18 months in (23% new) large French oak barrels. A small production of only 500 cases. 14.9% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $100.

My focus was on white wines from the Vallée du Rhône and on Crémants Rosés. My favorites which I bought: 2024 V (for Viognier) Famille Bour Domaine de Grangeneuve AOC Grignan-les Adhémar 14%, a spice, peppery and fruity beauty. NV Bulles de Lalande-Labatut Brut Rosé AOC Crémant de Bordeaux Château Lalande-Labatut 12%, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, a rosé not only fruity but also with character.
You like ostery, rillette, cheese or gâteau breton? No need to go hungry at the Salon. I went for a sandwich with truffled salami.

Pale purple in color. Strong nose of black currants, plums, light oak and chocolate notes. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with red and black fruits, light wood, spices, coffee, earth, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This Single Vineyard Syrah from Walla Walla Valley is much lighter than I expected it to be. Engaging and interesting. Complex, fruit forward and easy drinking. A nice sipping wine. A blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier. Grapes were fermented with wild yeast in concrete vats and aged in neutral French oak barrels for 22 months. A small production of less than 3,500 bottles. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $65.

Just discovered the Viognier appellation. Not THE Condrieu one (it’s -that- expensive) but a Pays d’Oc variant.
Quite nice already. Starts as a good Vouvray, but the mineral taste quickly gives way to a decent smoothness and a fresh / citrusy feeling.

Starfield Vineyards Hope Rising 2024, El Dorado, California Pale lemon in color with a green hue. Aromatic nose with limes, green apples, light earth, flowers, citrus and sweet herbs. Medium bodied with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with lemons, red and green apples, light grapefruits, peaches, light earth, pears, herbs and light spices. Soft finish with limes and grapefruits. This is a delicious White Rhone blend from California. Elegant and fruit forward. Smells like a Southern Rhone white, but much fruitier on the palate. Complex, but easy drinking. Tasty, nicely balanced and very pleasant. Neither bitter nor tart. Just delicious. The alcohol is nicely integrated, and good right out of the bottle. A great sipping wine, and refreshing when properly chilled. A blend of 45% Marsanne, 45% Roussanne and 10% Viognier. Aged for 8 months in (4% new) French Oak barrels. A small production of less than 2,200 bottles. 13.4% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $36.

This is a very interesting white blend from Columbia Valley. Elegant and nicely balanced with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Very easy drinking and good by itself. Dangerously good, so watch out. A blend of 50% Viognier and 50% Sauvignon Blanc. 11.7% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $36.
