This young Napa Cabernet feels very fresh and youthful, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Juicy and tangy, complex and interesting. Spicy and entertaining, elegant and easy drinking Not your typical Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, and feels more like a Left Bank Bordeaux. The Cabernet Franc seems to be very dominant right now. Earthier than I expected, and showing more fruits on the nose than the palate at this point. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. I had a few different vintages of this wine, and my favorite so far is the 2016. Good right out of the bottle, and even better the next day, when much of the vegetable notes dissipate. Dry on the palate with red plums, cooked cherries, currants, light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, earth, light tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn. Tangy finish with soft tannins and raspberries. This unique red wine from California is drinking nicely now. Elegant and rich. Fruit forward and nicely balanced. Spicy and entertaining. Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel. Fresh, and easy drinking. Good tight out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. A blend of 99% Mourvèdre with a touch of Roussanne. Aged for 18 months in (23% new) French oak barrels. 14.3% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $42.

Strong and fruity nose of blackberries, black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, cedar, black pepper, vanilla, licorice, light spices and milk chocolates. Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and very fruity on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, licorice, cola, chocolates, tobacco and light herbs. Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries. This 5 year old California red blend is drinking very nicely now. Rich and extracted. Fruit forward and complex. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. This Single Vineyard is soft and buttery. Spicy and bold. Tangy and very entertaining. The high alcohol is somewhat showing. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 45 minutes of airtime. Good by itself, and will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre, Grenache and Zinfandel. Aged for 10 months in French and American Oak barrels. 14.9% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $20.

Beautiful nose of black currants, light oak, spices, plums, cooked cherries, herbs, garrigue, earth, espresso, light vegetables, forest floor, dried meats and black tea. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Very dry on the palate with black plums, black currants, light wood, spices, coffee, black tea, peppercorn and cola notes. Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries. This 13 year old French Malbec is still drinking very nicely, but a tad past its prime. Complex and chewy. Showing a wonderful nose and a complex mid palate, but the finish was a bit disappointing. Loved smelling on it for a long time. Definitely showing its age, especially on the nose. Doesn't drink like a Malbec at all, though. Feels more like an old world Bordeaux blend. So interesting. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Wine Enthusiasts 90 points. Good right out of the bottle and got more complexity as it opened up. (30 minutes). A great food wine that paired nicely with hard cheeses. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $45.

Charles Krug Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, California Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim. Fruity nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry and fruit forward on the palate with nice complexity. Showing blackberries, cooked cherries, raisins, cedar, dried fruits, vanilla, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices and light earth. Long finish with soft tannins and cherries. This 10 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully now. Rich, elegant and fruit forward. Drinking at its peak now. Nicely balanced and smooth, with a soft mouthfeel. Delicious right out of the bottle, and even better after 30 minutes of airtime. I did not decant it, but let it open up in the bottle. Really enjoyed the nose after an hour of airtime. Easy drinking, and good by itself as a sipping wine, or with a nice piece of steak. A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. 14.7% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $50.

This young Chardonnay from Oregon is starting to drink nicely now. Showing nice complexity and good balance. Feels like a fruit forward white Burgundy. Elegant and spicy. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes of airtime. Tangy, interesting and better when not too cold. Soft and smooth. This Single Vineyard Chardonnay will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years. Has good potential to become a 93 point wine. A good sipping wine that will also pair nicely with food. 100% Chardonnay grapes were aged in (20% new) French oak barrels for 14 months. This 6 year old feels much older than it is. Spicy with an oxidized feel. Complex, nicely balanced and entertaining. A blend of 55% Clairette and 45% Ugni Blanc from 80 year old vines.
