Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2016, Southern Rhone, France Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Red fruits on the nose with light oak, spices, earth, garrigue and chocolates. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with sweet raspberries, black cherries, spices, tobacco leaf, dark chocolates, earth and black pepper. Nice finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries. This 9 year old Grenache blend from Southern Rhone is drinking beautifully now. Powerful, yet elegant. Fruity, rich and smooth. Still feels very young, and more fruit forward than I expected it to be. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Complex and interesting. Good right out of the bottle, and better after an hour of airtime. Spicy and entertaining. This 2016 vintage in the Southern Rhône was exceptional. Will continue to age beautifully over the next 10 years. A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with food. A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah. 14% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $140.

Patent Wines Yountville Sauvignon Blanc 2023, Napa Valley, California Pale lemon in color with green hue. Nose of citrus, green apples, light gooseberries and spices. Medium bodied with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with limes, grapefruits, citrus, green apples, spices, herbs, light earth and white pepper. Tangy finish with limes and grapefruits. This is a very tasty Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley. Crisp and refreshing. The alcohol is nicely integrated, elegant and fruit forward. Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. I've had a few vintages of this wine, and the 2022 vintage was my favorite so far. Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. Will pair nicely with fresh oysters. A blend of mostly Sauvignon Blanc grapes with a touch of Semillion and Muscat. 14.2% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $45.

Bosma Estate Winery Diamondback Ridge Vineyard Cattle Baron Cabernet Sauvignon 2020, Rattlesnake Hills, Washington State Deep purple in color with a short purplish rim. Fruity nose with black currants, black plums, blackberries, light cedar, peppercorn, tobacco leaf, light earth, black tea, chocolates, dark coffee and herbs. Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and fruit forward on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cedar, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, light earth, herbs and spices. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a delicious Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Rattlesnake Hills in Washington State. Fruit forward and complex, with a nice mouthfeel. Rich and elegant. Good right out of the bottle, and much better after 2 hours in the decanter. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years. Spicy, nicely balanced and interesting. Good by itself as a sipping wine. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. 14.3% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $46.

Smith-Madrone Vineyards Spring Mountain District Chardonnay 2021, Napa Valley, California Light yellow in color with a golden hue. Strong nose of yellow apples, light cedar, fresh apricots, light toasted nuts and spices. Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with limes, apples, grapefruits, bitter herbs, light earth, honey, spices and white pepper. Long finish with lemons and light herbs. This young Chardonnay from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully right out of the bottle. Elegant, rich and tasty. Nicely balanced and fruit forward. Juicy and entertaining, with light oak notes to compliment the fruits. Spicy and refreshing. Complex and engaging, and better when not too cold. I had a few vintages of this wine, and it always delivers. This vintage seems to be much more approachable young. Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years. Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a beautiful day by the pool. 100% Chardonnay grapes were aged in (50% new) French Oak barrels for 10 months. 14% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $45.
