The leaves of this Lizard Orchid near Rye, East Sussex, already hold blemishes. They'll be tatty, discoloured and almost withered away by the time it flowers in June.

A couple of years ago I saw the first Broad-leaved Helleborine at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Just one. Today there were eight 'spikes' in the same area. We must celebrate these small gains.

Amongst the ~100 Northern Marsh Orchids, by the spotted leaf ones was one paler one, looking like a NMOx CSO hybrid. There was also one that was slight darker than all the rest.
