2015 Kallstadter Saumagen Spätburgunder (pinot Noir) unfiltriert (unfiltered) VDP Großes Gewächs, 13%, Rings. This wine from the Palatinate (Pfalz, Germany) is like a lucid dream, you decide to explore the fruit's dimension and find its richly layered with red fruits. You decide to explore the spiciness and find a complex but restarained mixture of canella, cloves, allspice, oak wood and a very light touch of herbs. But you always come back to the core of this wine. Perfect harmony of fruit, oak barrel integration, still fresh acidity and a finish which doesn't want to end. For me the best German Pinot Noir - Spätburgunder from the 2015 vintage!

To find a dish which can compete with the 2015 Saumagen Spätburgunder from Ring Winery isn't esay. I carefully fry a small turkey steak that I have seasoned with Ras el Hanout. Sides dishes, boiled potatoes in their skin and champignons seasond only with salt and pepper. Very good match.

Chateau Berliquet Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé 2020, Bordeaux, France It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back! Deep ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Red fruits on the nose with spices and dark chocolate notes. Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black plums, currants, light oak, coffee, herbs, chocolates, licorice, spices, light earth, black pepper, tobacco leaf and black tea. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is very tasty Merlot from Saint Emilion. Complex and rich. Nicely balanced, fruit forward and elegant. This 5 year old Merlot based blend is still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already drinking nicely. Interesting enough to drink as a sipping wine, or with food. A blend of 69% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (50% New) French Oak barrels for 16 months. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $60.
