A Roland's Sallow moth from above, a light brownish-grey moth with the fluffiest thorax you've ever seen. The wings have lichen-like spots, the feet are lightly striped, the antennae are thin but fluffy, and the thorax has a lighter spot in the middle, then a darker spot where it meets the wings. Might be an injury on this individual, I'm not sure.

The same moth but front facing and eating a red bell pepper piece that I put sugar on. The eyes are very dark compared to everything else.

A small, very fluffy brown moth on a white guy's dry wrist, just in front of a pink silicone Fitbit band.

A top view, he lies quite narrowly.

A much closer side view of the moth, showing off the incredibly thick and round and fluffy thorax, the lichen-mimicking spots on the wings, and the lighter stripes on the leg segments. The moth is poised much like an American bison, leaning slightly forward with its head angled down.

Even closer, you can see the underbelly is lighter especially around the bases of the legs. The antennae are held flat against the sides of the body, the eyes are completely dark circles, the fluff and wings have almost a bark like texture visually for camouflage, and the ends of the wings are a bit thin on scales.

The captive Roland's Sallow has been taken out for chilling cuz he was restless as hell

An American oil beetle/buttercup oil beetle (Meloe americanus) in a clear plastic jar, curled up and unconscious due to the cold last night.

Today's first pic, he's upright but with his face pressed into the ground, very much sleep.

Another napping pic after he's woken up once, got the front legs a bit more stretched out but still faceplanted. There's some bits of banana peel and stem as a treat inside.

I'm fucking obsessed with this thing (American oil beetle I found just outside the doorway of the cabin we're camping at, he was unconscious and now he's just napping. And yes he's safely contained and being cared for)

A very, very crinkly monarch butterfly that JUST crawled out of her chrysalis, literally right as I got outta bed.

A monarch butterfly being very temporarily held. Their bodies are also covered in white spots, apparently, and only 4 legs are actually visible.

Another view, there's no spot on the hindwings so it's likely a female. Also, her wings are fully extended now, but very very soft still.

Now hanging on a paper towel ledge back inside the net enclosure, much safer than the plastic roof or my hand.

I'm a parent now...... (only handled to move her to a better ledge than the smooth plastic roof of the enclosure)

A female salt marsh moth, or estigmene acrea, a white moth with black antennae and black specks on her forewings. In females, the hindwings are white.

She's standing on the other side of a fine white hexagonal fabric mesh, and by her abdomen are clusters of very tiny yellow spherical eggs. These were not all the ones she laid.

That first cluster of eggs in a small clear plastic container with damp paper towels on top of some moss, once again not all of her offspring.

A red sketch on a whiteboard of a female long-tailed giant ichneumonid wasp, or megarhyssa macrurus. They're very long, and females have an equally long 'tail' that's actually an ovipositor. They're harmless to humans, but parasitize pigeon horntails in trees.

Some old cocoons and spent pupae from bucculatrix moths, the cocoons are long and light orange and stick to a flat surface.

A tiny, very long brown bug with 4 very thin stilt like legs, mantis like front legs, long thin antennae, and a proboscis.

A large, very colorful metallic Fiery Searcher beetle that's mostly green and missing most of the abdomen.

A really, really tiny monarch caterpillar on the underside of a milkweed leaf, a little confused cuz of the disturbance but otherwise just unbothered and munching.
