The Walls Vineyards Stanley Groovy Lip Stinger 2023, Washington State Nice color of lemon with a golden hue. Nose of citrus, lemons, apples, earth, spices, limes and minerals. Medium bodied with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with grapefruits, lemons, green apples, spices, bitter herbs and light earth. Tangy finish with limes and spices. This is a very tasty white Rhone blend from Washington State. Elegant and nicely balanced. Spicy, delicate and entertaining. Feels like a White Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A lovely surprise. Good right out of the bottle, gets earthier as it opens up, and the high alcohol is not noticeable. Good by itself or with food, and paired very nicely with the Avocado Tuna Tartar. A blend of 60% Grenache Blanc, 18% Roussanne, 9% Picpoul, 9% Viognier and 4% Marsanne. 14.6% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $32.

Starfield Vineyards Hope Rising 2024, El Dorado, California Pale lemon in color with a green hue. Aromatic nose with limes, green apples, light earth, flowers, citrus and sweet herbs. Medium bodied with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with lemons, red and green apples, light grapefruits, peaches, light earth, pears, herbs and light spices. Soft finish with limes and grapefruits. This is a delicious White Rhone blend from California. Elegant and fruit forward. Smells like a Southern Rhone white, but much fruitier on the palate. Complex, but easy drinking. Tasty, nicely balanced and very pleasant. Neither bitter nor tart. Just delicious. The alcohol is nicely integrated, and good right out of the bottle. A great sipping wine, and refreshing when properly chilled. A blend of 45% Marsanne, 45% Roussanne and 10% Viognier. Aged for 8 months in (4% new) French Oak barrels. A small production of less than 2,200 bottles. 13.4% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $36.

This is an interesting white wine from El Dorado in California. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Soft and elegant. Spicy and entertaining. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes of airtime. Showing nice complexity once it opens up. Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. Tangy and interesting. A blend of 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne. Aged for 8 months in used oak barrels. 12.9% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $36.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with pears, citrus, apples, light oak, spices, light earth, herbs and sea salt. Spicy finish with lemons and light almonds. This is a tasty Viognier from California. Smooth and soft. Elegant and rich. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes of airtime. Better when properly chilled. Showing nice complexity and good balance. Neither bitter nor tart, which is how I like it. Spicy and engaging. Easy drinking and good by itself or with food. A blend of 93% Viognier, 5% Roussanne and 2% Marsanne. Aged in (37% new) French Oak barrels for 8 months. A small production of only 3,300 bottles. 13.7% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $36.

Arizona Stronghold Vineyards Bonita Springs Vineyard Marsanne 2024, Arizona Dark gold in color. Fruity nose of oak, vanilla, melons, yellow apples, spices and light herbs. Full-bodied and elegant with medium minus acidity. Dry on the palate with apples, citrus, spices, oak, herbs, vanilla, earth and light vegetables. Short finish with limes and bitter almonds. This is an easy drinking white wine from Arizona. Feels like a California Chardonnay with a touch of Rhone. Interesting stuff. This Single Vineyard Marsanne needs some time in the bottle to mature properly, but already very approachable. Spicy and interesting, with mild complexity. Good by itself and good for parties. 100% Marsanne grapes were aged in new French oak barrels. A tiny production of only 660 bottles. 13.9% alcohol by volume. 88 points.
