Mrs HBHM investigating the Gallium which decided to grow itself in the Primrose, Cowslip and Pulmonaria garden 2 years ago.
I didn't find any eggs in this dense mass of greenery but absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence is it? After all her effort I could only hope.
I had never seen this before, Mrs HBHM actually laying an egg on MY wall while I watched and recorded the event.
I found 4 of these beautiful and tiny pale green globes just inches above the Gallium. Sadly the next day they had been predated. C'est la vie, but I don't have to like it, would have enjoyed raising these little moths.

Found a very cute Miner/Leafcutter Bee yesterday, trapped on a windowsill. (Megachile[?], species uncertain)
Got some water to entice them into leaving the window and set them free outside. Seriously loud wings on this lil critter!

A closeup of a red, gold, and black wasp looking directly at the camera. Its face and thorax are covered in fine golden hairs.
I found a Great Golden Digger Wasp (Sphex ichneumoneus). Identifiable by the distinctive golden pubescence on its head and thorax. 😃 #entomolgy #hymenoptera
Male, eclosed Thursday or Friday, Brimstone butterfly feeding in my garden.

099625 The caterpillar had just shed its 2nd instar skin and the 3rd instar face is white with delicate patterns. The mandible, maxillae and ocelli (simple eyes, 6 on each side of the head) are visible
Couldn't get a clear view of the side of the head. In this shot it's turned round and is eating the moulted skin.
48 hours later the head is now yellow, the delicate markings less clear but the black spots are clearly defined.
An almost side view of the head. Very yellow now. In about a week there will be another moult and the caterpillar will be quite large.

Several black ants (approximately 1 cm long) have positioned themselves on the uppermost twigs and leaf stalks that sprout from these twigs of a very young tree. Most are not moving: they are not hunting. The leaves in the upper part of the picture are almost flawless. The pests' sugar secretions are far too small for the ants to eat. The blurred background of the image: Please see the alternative text of the right photo.
The foreground is occupied by the young tree and ants, my olive green backpack, part of my mobile seat, a very sturdy, large gray garbage bag, and part of my tripod, a piece of my off-road rear wheel. The background consists of a mostly harmless stream and its steep banks lined with trees and bushes. Green leaves in all shades, partially illuminated by the evening sun, obscure part of the banks and most of the sky. The mostly harmless stream has already washed out some of the roots of some of its future victims.

A patch of aprox. 50 pearlescent globular eggs laid on a green veined rose leave against a black background
Another highlight from today, these beautiful little pearl like eggs, no idea what might emerge, but possible Lepidopteran or Hemipteran, can just wait and see what hatches! #Entomolgy #Lepidoptera #Hemiptera

Aglais urticae. Wingspan 42mm a once very common butterfly, one of the 5 which overwinter in Britain in the adult form. Upper wings orange with yellow and black marks, underwing are brown. This one is feeding on Dandelion. PLEASE DON'T CUT YOUR DANDELIONS, THEY ARE AN ESSENTIAL FOOD SOURCE FOR EARLY INVERTEBRATES.

@entomology Can I ask a question about #entomolgy here?
I am a big fan and avid reader of the entomologist Jean-Henri Fabre. And there is one thing that keeps on bugging me (pun intended):
Fabre was critical of the theory of evolution. It was new at the time. One example he gave was the […]

Third partner institution: the Universidad de Navarra!
As part of the university 🎓, their #Entomolgy collection is mainly based on research material, but also on other entities donations!
Although young (~40 yrs old), it is rapidly growing and involved in digitisation (> 500k GBIF data)! ‼️
Something about this beauty is absolutely mesmerizing me with those patterns. Dimorphic Jumping Spider(Maevia inclemens)🕷️📸🥰
