With it, they can detect Ξ±-synuclein, the protein that is involved in the pathology in PD, which is enriched in EVs from PD patients. To validate their assay's detection of rare EV subpopulations, they inspected them using #dSTORM on the #Nanoimager and confirmed that their assay is very sensitive.

For example, in this #dSTORM image, the neuronal #proteins Homer and Bassoon are labeled in cyan and magenta, revealing a beautiful structure of #neurons, including individual #synapses, the nanoscale space between cells, used to exchange molecules and ions. π§
