Strong nose of black fruits with light cedar, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, cola, herbs and spices. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, black plums, cedar, tobacco leaf, light earth, coffee, herbs, dark chocolates, black tea, peppercorn and cola. Long finish with no tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious 10-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon from Walla Walla Valley. Rich and fruit forward. Complex and nicely balanced. Good right out of the bottle and didn't evolve much with air, even after after 2 hours. Wine Enthusiasts 90 points. I had this vintage 7 years ago, and it is so much better now. Probably a little past its peak, but delicious nonetheless. A little flat at this point, but very tasty. I love these Cabernet based Bordeaux blends. Easy drinking and a great sipping wine. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. Aged in (28% new) French Oak barrels. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $45 (current vintage).

This young Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Howell Mountain is starting to drink very nicely now, but needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Shows good structure with a nice mouthfeel. Nicely balanced and complex. Needs time to open up properly. I gave it 4 hours in the decanter. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. A good sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a nice piece of steak. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged for 18 months in (50% new) French Oak barrels. Unfiltered. This 9 year old is nicely aged, sweet and delicious, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Well balanced, sweet and easy drinking. Rich and extracted. Fruit forward and entertaining. I had a more recent vintage not too long ago, and it’s definitely better with age. This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely fantastic now. Drinking at its peak, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 7 years. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel and a gorgeous nose. Loved smelling on it. The high alcohol is well integrated by now. Good by itself as a sipping wine, and paired beautifully with the delicious Wagyu Steak. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in all new French oak barrels for 20 months. 15.2% alcohol by volume. 94 points. $180.

Feels like a Right Bank Bordeaux with a touch of New World. I had the 2018 not too long ago and this one is drinking much better now. Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years. Easy drinking and good by itself or with food. A blend of 68% Merlot and 32% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 16 months in used French oak barrels. 14% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $40.

Chateau La Fleur Ferrand Cuvée Réservée Pomerol 2017, Bordeaux, France It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back! Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose of red fruits with light wood, spices, coffee, earth, dark chocolates and tobacco. Medium plus in body and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cherries, spices, light oak, licorice, chocolates, coffee, light earth and herbs. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 8 year old Merlot from Pomerol is showing a very fresh nose, but starting to show age on the palate. Might be just this specific bottle, though. Rich and fruit forward. Complex and interesting. Plush and creamy. Good by itself as a sipping wine and would pair nicely with food too. 100% Merlot grapes were aged for 12 months in (100% new) French Oak barrels. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $95.

Gramercy Cellars Gramercy Estate 2020, Walla Walla Valley, Washington State Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with a nice mouthfeel. Showing fresh cherries, plums, black currants, coffee, oak, spices, chocolates and peppercorn. Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 5 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Walla Walla Valley is drinking nicely now. Rich and nicely balanced. Complex and entertaining. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years and see how it evolves. Fruit forward and elegant. Spicy, tangy and a good food wine. A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. Aged in (21% new) French oak barrels for 24 months. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $72.
